And certainly a telling one as well, I’ve just posted one of my favorite songs of all times. It is Billy Bragg’s “The Saturday Boy.” I’m going to post the lyrics for you all and I think it’ll explain a lot. And no, the final line does not mean that he or I are pedophiles. Of course, as you’ll notice, he changes it up a bit live. Anyways, this explains my (and I’m sure many others’) entire history with the female gender, from my first crush in what was probably kindergarten up until now. So, here are the lyrics:
I’ll never forget the first day I met her That September morning was clear and fresh The way she spoke and laughed at my jokes And the way she rubbed herself Against the edge of my desk She became a magic mystery to me And we’d sit together in double History twice a week And some days we’d walk the same way home And it’s surprising how quick A little rain can clear the streets We dreamed of her and compared our dreams But that was all that I ever tasted She lied to me with her body you see I lied to myself ‘bout the chances I’d wasted
The times we were close Were far and few between In the darkness at the dances in the school canteen Did she close her eyes like I did As we held each other tight And la la la la la la la la means I love you
She danced with me and I still hold that memory Soft and sweet And I stare up at her window As I walk down her street But I never made the first team, I just made the first team laugh And she never came to the phone She was always in the bath In the end, it took me a dictionary To find out the meaning of unrequited While she was giving herself for free At a party to which I was never invited
I never understood my failings then And I hide my humble hopes now Thinking back she made us want her A girl not old enough to shave her legs
There you have it, The Saturday Boy.
Paper update: Six full pages completed on tonight’s paper. Time: 2:10am. Two and one third pages completed on tomorrow night’s paper. Tuesday night will be saved for revisions. These are the last two that I have and after that I’ll have three finals. We’re almost out of the woods. And mosquitos have been biting me tonight. Annoying little SOBs. Oh, and last night’s paper was finished by 11pm. It only took me three hours to complete those ten pages, I’m proud of myself there.
So, what you’ve just experienced is what Sam and I are now calling “Poetry Sundays.” Once a week from here on out he and I will be presenting you, the reader, with absolute, nonsensical poetry. What we’ll do is just string together words, much like what many poets today do. I recommend those of you out there who read this to join in. If you don’t have a tumblr or if you’re a lurker, then try it out on your own and see what you can come up with. Who knows, if you try submitting them you may eventually get published. So, I hope you all enjoy laughing along with us as we show you the sad truth of what is called “art” today.
I don’t expect anyone to understand what’s going on here except for Sam as this is an inside joke. Expect more of these. Progress on essays: Almost done for tonight’s and after that I’ll have but one left. Boo-yah, baby. Boo-yah.
Clip from 1972 film “Night of the Lepus” which involves giant killer bunnies…if you couldn’t tell.
Pretty much done with the paper. I’ve decided to give it a rest as I’ve got the majority of what needed to be said and I just have to go back and find the highlighted quotes and enter them into the appropriate sections. I’ve decided to nix the photos of myself because nobody should be subjected to a close-up of my face. That and I’m too lazy to upload them. Two ten-pagers down, three to go. Bring it on. And say that “on” as “ahwn.”
So, it just hit me. I’ve decided to chart the progress of my evergrowing frustration/insanity/sleep deprivation over the course of the week until all papers are finished and finals are over. Of course, this will require me to take photos of myself, which I really loathe doing, but I think that it can be a great study on sleep deprivation and societal stress on the physical appearance of the human body. So really all that means is let’s see how disheveled I’ll be by next Friday. I’ll post a photo once I’m done with the current paper. It is currently 12:07am.
I’ve posted some music by the Fratellis below. It’s that time of year where everyone is winding down with the cruel beaurocracy of the University/School system. As I’ve made fairly clear, I’m swamped for the next few days, and I’m sure it’s to be the same with all of you folks out there, so here’s a nice little break from all of the frustrations of finals (midterms for others), papers, professors, and the collective a-holes that plague our lives. And while we’re on the Fratellis, they’re coming out with a new album due in early September. I hope everything is going better for everyone else than it is for me. Let’s just say that three hours of sleep nearly made me snap today. Hopefully I’ll be done by 2am with one of my papers tonight. Tomorrow will see me heading home, working on another paper, and getting a home cooked meal. Sunday will be Mother’s Day in which I’ll have to postpone paper writing for a little bit. I’ll try to update as much as possible without cutting into too much time to my paper writing. Anyways, I’ve gone on too long already. Time to talk about commies for ten pages. Ugh.
I’ve just completed one ten-page essay, one three-page essay and have gotten one page through my second ten-page essay. I am now going to rest and see what I can do. I will attempt to complete two ten-page essays today, but we will see how far I can get with limited sleep. I really screwed myself over this semester. More updates on my essay status as I go along. Because it’s so interesting to everyone. Sigh.
